In addition to substantial pay gaps, women in medicine face a lack of institutional support. Much of this is due to the fact that there are few female doctors in professional leadership positions. Women make up 75 percent of hospital employees in the United States, but are underrepresented in leadership positions.
According to the Workplace Gender Equity Agency, fewer female workplace leaders translated to lower female workforce participation. So, promoting women in the medical profession will attract more female nurses and doctors.
