Throughout history, women have fought for professional status in a male-dominated world. This is still true today. Women hold only a small fraction of national government offices. Much of this is due to cycles that perpetuate male economic and political leadership. However, over time, a few women have pushed through social barriers to achieve professional fame.
Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian is just one such woman. At over ninety years of age, Monir has carved out a new position of leadership among artists in the Middle East. Now, she has achieved one of the highest honors of the art world: her own museum.
