In Stunning Policy Reversal, Iran Arrests Women for Hijab Protests

Iran recently announced that it would cut back on arrests for violating Islamic values. According to Tehran’s Chief of Police, the regime was planning to ease up. Instead, it intended to use education to enforce social order.

This announcement was made in the midst of protest over the strict Islamic dress code. After decades of being required to follow these strict rules, women began to speak out on social media. Then, they took to the streets. Once the protests became serious, Iranian police swooped in. Now, at least 29 women have been arrested for protesting the hijab.
